Research Theme

My current research focuses on (1) changing competitive advantages in retailing under the globalization and digitalization, (2) how western philosophies about retailing were transferred into Japan during the interwar period and how this transfer affected the characteristics of the Japanese retail industry, and (3) how the apparel industry emerged and developed in Japan along with the department stores and certain designers.
