| The Finance Program in the Graduate School of Economics has the following distinctive features: |
¡Emphasis on the Economics Discipline
Financial scholarship requires a profound understanding of economic and social mechanisms. The Finance Program will attach great importance to the study of microeconomics, macroeconomics and accounting. |
¡Financial Strategy and Financial Public Policy
The study of finance covers two kinds of activities: Financial Strategy and Financial Public Policy. Financial Strategy includes asset management, development of financial products, corporate finance, risk management and other activities in the private sector. Financial Public Policy includes financial regulations, financial systems design, monetary policies, currency regulation and other policy measures used by governments and central banks. In Europe and the United States, Financial Strategy is normally taught in business schools whereas Financial Public Policy is the domain of economics faculties. In contrast, our program encompasses both themes systematically into an experiment that can be seen as unique in the world. |
¡Admission of Students with Engineering/Science Backgrounds
Finance is an economics discipline that encompasses many other fields, such as math, statistics and computer science. The Finance Program will not be limited to only traditional humanities and social science disciplines, but will also seek graduates from science and engineering, and other programs outside the area of economics, management and commerce. |
¡Internationalization
The Finance Program aims to be the top institution of advanced education and research in the Asia Pacific region, welcoming respected professors from around the world. Thus, many lectures and seminars will be offered in English. |
¡Cooperation with the Center for Advanced Research in Finance
The Center for Advanced Research in Finance (CARF) will provide analytic facilities with an extensive database that covers economic and financial data of Japan, Asia, Europe and the United States. It will also invite active researchers at the frontier of financial scholarship and sponsor research projects. The students in the program will make use of this research environment for education and research, and will be exposed to the Center's latest research outcomes. |
¡Distinction from Other Graduate Programs for People in Mid-Career
The Finance Program is not a professional school but a conventional graduate program consisting of Master's and Doctoral courses. The program will be open for career professionals but will not be offering an evening course program. All students will be required to devote their full energies to the program once registered. The same admission procedure will be adopted for all applicants regardless of their backgrounds. |
